On this Second Sunday after Pentecost, we read from Paul's Letter to the Galatians. Paul is continuing his teaching about the power of faith in Christ and the gift from God of the unifying gift of grace and love. The Galatians had accepted the power of Christ's reconciling love through Paul's teaching of the Gospel, but others had come into the Galatian community and taught that faith in Christ wasn't enough, the Galatians also needed to follow the Law of Moses. Paul's passionate letter is grounded in the firm belief that faith in Christ alone is sufficient for our salvation, and any additional "requirements" are simply impediments to our faithful reliance on the saving power of Christ's presence in our lives. We will discuss Paul's teaching of faith and reflect on its meaning to our lives today.
