On this Seventh Sunday of Easter, we explore Jesus' prayer to God, requesting God to be with his disciples as he prepares to leave them. Jesus' words are a prayer for unity: unity for the community of believers and unity of these followers of Jesus with God, the Father. Community can be a wonderful, life-giving force, but it can also be the source of division and pride - we will explore the many facets of living and believing in community.
Our Scripture passage is found in the Gospel according to John. Our passage may be found by following the provided link: (John 17:1-11).
For continuing study on your own, reflect on these questions (found in the study guide below):
What do we learn about God, the Father, and Jesus Christ, from our Scripture passage of Jesus' prayer?
What do you think Jesus is asking for when he prays that God might "glorify" him?
From what might Jesus want his followers protected from, and how might that be accomplished, through God's divine protection?
How do you understand "being at one with Christ" in your own life? And how does that unity with Christ influence your desire for unity for all people?
