As we gather on this Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost, we reflect on the Apostle Paul's message of proclaiming the Gospel truth by living a life worthy of Christ's mission and ministry. In our Epistle lesson, we hear Paul encouraging Timothy and all the Christians that will encounter similar experiences in their lives to follow the teachings of Christ by living a life that is grounded in the promise of eternal life with God. If we "die" to our personal desires and selfish ways, and instead give ourselves to the invitation to be faithful followers of Christ's way of life, we gain a joyful life of being with God and others, and we inherit the promise of eternal life. Paul also describes the empty life of walking away from God's promise, and explains the bitter disappointment of not being recognized by Christ. We will share our thoughts about what a life lived in Christ might look like for us.
