We will not gather this week for our Scripture Reflection series due to our other Adult Education Series gathering, but this Scripture for the week is the Gospel reading of the Twenty-six Sunday after Pentecost, which may be found and read by following this link: HERE. Jesus meets the repentant tax collector, Zacchaeus, who has been searching for Jesus among the large crowd. Zacchaeus has spent much of his "comfortable" life living by the riches that come with the brutal job of collecting tax, and the crowd is stunned to realize Jesus is willing to spend time with this man. We learn a few things from this story: Jesus has been sent to seek out sinners and forgive and heal, not avoid them due to their sins. Jesus also grants an opportunity for Zacchaeus (and us) to reflect and confess our brokenness, and imagine a new way forward in life. And Jesus provides Zacchaeus with an opportunity to serve as a witness of reconciliation and new life to the crowd, which is also an important part of the celebration of All Saints Day.
