On this Sunday of Pentecost, we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and consider the formation of the Church, which is the gathering of the followers of Christ and the divine gift of the Holy Spirit given to each person. This gift begins the enduring and faithful mission of God's work in the world through God's people!

Our Scripture passage is found in the Book of Acts. Our passage may be found by following the provided link: (Acts 2:1-21).

For continuing study on your own, reflect on these questions (found in the study guide below):

  • After reading the assigned Scripture passage, read the "WHAT is important to know?" paragraph below and reflect on images that might have caught your attention or imagination.

  • After reading the "WHERE..." paragraph below, reflect on which actions given by the Spirit described in the Scripture passage might provide the early Christians direction or empowerment in their lives?

  • Why do you believe the crowd responded with some disbelief toward the testimony of the disciples?

  • Read the story of the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9) and compare & contrast the role of language in each story, and how language differed in its power to build unity or to separate people.
